Argentina. Dir. Carmen Guarini. 2017, 82 mins. Digital projection. In Spanish with English subtitles. Do utopias still exist? This is the question Argentine filmmaker Fernando Birri asks. In 1997, Birri returns to his home country to document the 30th anniversary of Che Guevara’s death. Carmen Guarini decided to record those moments, creating an extraordinary documentary with the appearances of Ernesto Sabato, Osvaldo Bayer, Eduardo Galeano, León Ferrari, and los habitantes de La Higuera. Guarini finally interviews Birri at his home where he shows that at 92 he was as lucid and irreverent as ever.
